2p! Japan is an original character design by Hidekaz Himaruya called "Another Color". His appearance is official but his personality is not, though it is fairly agreed upon in the fandom.

The most popular human name for him is Honda Kuro (本田黒), or Kuro Honda in the Western name order. Kuro comes from the Japanese word for black, matching his uniform of the same color. Himaruya called this version of Japan Kuro himself, making Kuro the only official alternate name for a 2p! character.

Appearance

2p! Japan is shown to be physically similar to his counterpart, but with multiple color differences.

2p! Japan is depicted with a scowl on his face, differing from his counterpart's lack of expression. His hair is slightly more red-toned and his eyes are red. He wears a black version of Japan's uniform, a uniform of the imperial Japanese navy, as well as a long, purple cape and white gloves. Japan has worn a similar uniform in several strips and official artwork. Like his counterpart, this Japan carries a katana, though he handles it in his right hand as opposed to his left.

In another drawing by Himaruya, he is shown to be wearing a military cap. It outlines the diamond details on his sleeve cuffs. He is depicted with a fox companion.

When not wearing his uniform, he is often depicted by fans as having full-body tattoos, similar to the ones traditionally worn by the Yakuza.

Some fan designs stray from the original artwork, however. Many are inspired by 2p! Nyo! Japan's design.

Personality

2p! Japan has no official personality. Fans of Hetalia have created personalities for the 2p! characters, some more widely accepted than others. Common and well-known depictions are listed below.

General Personality

• It is very often taken into consideration that during WWII, Japan was one of the most ruthless, dangerous, and powerful nations in the world. He enjoys expressing his power and becomes very aggressive when he wants something. Unlike his 1P counterpart, he is much more in control in the Axis.
• He carries a very honorable front, to the point of punishing those considered dishonorable. He is ruthless in his exploits. He is often remorseless, and carries a "sorry, not sorry" attitude.
• He retains his counterpart's politeness, though in a matter of honor rather than real respect. He does not speak unless spoken to, and even then in short and to the point sentences.
• He is not friendly for the sake of friendliness and may even be considered cold and judgmental.
• Nothing amuses him. If he is ever seen smiling, he is either pitying you or thinking of something perverted.
• He does not get flustered, does not worry, and keeps his own opinions to himself.

Specific Traits and Quirks

• Sometimes, he is depicted as being a very open pervert. He draws a lot of hentai.
• He swears a lot.

Relationships

• 2p! China - 2p! China hates 2p! Japan more than anyone.
• 2p! Germany - 2p! Germany's laziness is often up against 2p! Japan's strictness, so their relationship isn't the best.
• 2p! Greece - He and 2p! Greece may not get along. However, some depictions show the two of them liking each other.
• 2p! Italy - He cannot stand 2p! Italy at all, but remains allies with him to gain more power.
• 2p! Russia - 2p! Japan and 2p! Russia are strong allies. Despite how often they fought in the past, they are very much alike. They appreciate each other's thoroughness and habit of not letting loose ends hang. Many people believe that they used to be in a relationship.
• 2p! Taiwan - Though they often fight, they manage to get along somewhat due to their similar personalities.

Pets

There are a few nations who have pets, animal companions, or mythical companions. Often, these are not translated as a "Player 2". However, there are a few interpretations in the fandom which do use these companions. Some depictions may even give them entirely original pets.

• Fox - In an official sketch by Himaruya, Kuro is depicted with a fox companion as opposed to his counterpart's pet dog Pochi. The fox may represent the kitsune in Japanese folklore.

1p! Japan vs. 2p! Japan

• 1p! Japan is polite and kind. 2p! Japan may be portrayed as being polite- not out of kindness, though, but out of honor. He is rarely, if ever, kind.
• 1p! Japan is horrified at the idea of nudity or anything sexual. 2p! Japan is quite the pervert.
• 1p! Japan is reserved, at one point even being a hikikomori. 2p! Japan is quite reserved as well, but in a more standoffish and arrogant way.

Common 2p! Traits

It is common for the 2p!s to be portrayed as murderous and obsessive. To most, they are a darker and opposite version of the original nations. However, because the original nations can be portrayed in the same way by the fandom, how much hold this has depends on the person making the story, artwork, or cosplay.

More often than not, 2p! Japan is shown interacting with the 1ps the most out of the 2p!s. His personality often reflects Japan's actions during WWII, including the invasion of China and the resulting war and the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Trivia

• Japan, along with the rest of the Axis, are the only ones with official "Player 2" appearances.
